Eagle Beak
 Speech writer for Santanta

Satanta, the great Kiowa warrior was known as the “Orator of the Plains”.  He had a natural gift for giving great speeches and dealing with his enemies.  Through out Kansas’ history he has been known for his oratories at Medicine Lodge and at Fort Dodge.

Although Santanta had a gift for delivering speeches with great style, his genius of putting words together with great power came from his little known friend, Eagle Beak.  Eagle Beak did not have the rugged good looks of Satanta, nor the skill of a warrior that was Satanta’s.  Eagle Beak was the eloquent voice of Satanta that stayed in the background of Kansas Native American lore.

WOODCARVINGS FOR SALE

.
Ol' Flint of the Flint Hills
.
$250.00
.
This here's my friend Ol' Flint.
You kin tell by lookin' at Ol' Flint, he ain't one of thim fancy fellas.
Ol' Flint has had the same winter coat 'n hat for the past sixteen years
and whin he loozes a button 'er a fastner breaks,
he jist makes another 'n out 'n a piece of wood 'r sumthin'.
And he ain't got no hair cut since the nights started gettin' cool
An I don't know as I ever knowed him to shave.
Yissir, Ol' Flint is tough an hardened to the demands made on him.
Jest like a flint stone, and that's wher he got his name.
He's a man you can count on and jest as steady as a rock.
He's not skeered of nothin'.
Even in the early day, when you could hear hungry wolves howlin'
on a cold winter night, it didn't skeer Ol' Flint none.
Now Ol' Flint ain't quite the man he uster be,
you can tell by his wrinkles an the bags under his eyes.
But he's a good helpin' hand and a good man "to ride the river by".
A friend,
Cottonwood Perkins

Poem by
Roseanna K. Volden
a friend and
District Magistrate Judge

Hon Roseanna K Volden - Morton County

Harold, the Head Herd Handler and Woody, the Woodcarver,
are good buddies and get into lots of mischief together
when they finish their chores.

Like that Christmas far, far away.
Harold hitched the herd to the sleigh.
Santa gave a whistle
the signal to the team to fly to the sky,
like the down of a thistle.
NOTHING!!!
So he called them by name.......
on Donner, now Dancer and Prancer......
NOTHING!!!
Try as they might.....
They couldn't take flight!
With a turn of his head ---
Santa knew what there was to dread!
The team couldn't fly as they should......
Cause they were carved from wood!!!
Harold, the Head Herd Handler
and Woody, the Woodcarver
are their names
and mischief is their game!!!"
