We are sorry that we do not have a web site that would be easier to navigate.
We had the Foundwood Carvings web site for several years
but were unfortunate to have it hacked
and we haven't even tried to do that again.
Age does a lot of things to a person.

DOANE WOODCARVING EXPERIENCE

I had the honor to be invited to be a Santa Carving Instructor at the 2019 Doane Woodcarving Experience.
Besides preparing for teaching the class I also carved a Santa for the Auction at this extraordinary dynamic carving experience.
This Santa also served as a model for the class to view, as they were carving.

My students and their Santa's
My usual woodcarving classes are with students
with minimal woodcarving experience.
These class members have all been carvers
and attended my class to add new ways to carve a Santa.
Awesome members of my class and fantastic carvings!

WOOD FOR WOODCARVINGS

.
AN INTERESTING TIDBIT
about the shape of the wood
in wood carvings.

The flat rectangle board (on the left, below) is the beginning of a
"Relief Carving"
such as
Mother Teresa, The Incredulity of Saint Thomas (Doubting Thomas),
Outdoor Man, etc.

The triangle type of wood
(to the right of the rectangle wood)
and
the round piece of wood
(the bottom picture)
is the beginning of a Santa, Elf, Green Man
or any carving "In the Round."
The top right piece of wood
(top picture)
and the middle picture
is the beginning of a Santa.
Amazing?

MOTHER TERESA

.
MOTHER TERESA
Elkhart, KS

Mother Teresa was a humanitarian. Her entire life was fully devoted to helping the poor, the sick, the needy, and the helpless. Mother Teresa was born in Uskub, Ottoman Empire on August 26, 1910.

She changed her name to Teresa when she was appointed to be a nun. The poor and needy started to call her mother due to her works. ... Numerous amounts of people look up to Mother Teresa as someone that could change the world, and she did. She changed the way people look at life and God.

Mother Teresa grew famous for humbly ministering to lepers, the homeless and the poorest of the poor in the slums of Calcutta (otherwise known as Kolkata), India. She was proclaimed a saint by the Catholic Church in 2016.

In 1971, she was awarded the first Pope John XXIII Peace Prize for her work with the poor, display of Christian charity and efforts for peace. In 1979, Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, "for work undertaken in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress, which also constitutes a threat to peace."

This was a special order.  Evidently the customer changed his mind.
He sent his address but not a check or money order.
We have a policy to never send a carving without being paid first,
even if you are our best friend.

Bark Carving

.
After spending 3 or 4 months of consignment carvings, I went to my carving shop and picked up a stray piece of bark.  I was wondering if I still knew how to carve in bark.  It was so refreshing.  Notice, I just worked around a worm hole in the middle of his forehead.

BARK CARVING

.
The bark from this carving is from a tree on
Eagle Creek - N.W. Russell, KS.
It was on the old Harrell farm on the
East edge of Paradise, KS.
If anyone goes to that area and sees some more bark, I would love to have it.

I need to make a trip back to Lucas to Grassroots to take more carvings,
but it may be a while.

Lucky Rooster Whiskey

A young man walked into Graves Drug Store while I was working.
He looked like a fun person to carve with a Lucky Rooster Whiskey stocking hat.
One of my great friends even said she recognized him in this carving,

although we do not know who he is.
